Maintaining, Protecting and Repairing Glass: Tips for Everyone

Welcome to my blog. When I was a teen, I started dabbling with coloured glass and stained glass art. Later, I helped work on a number of houses, and my partner and I often changed the windows in those houses. Through that experience, I learned a lot about maintaining, protecting and repairing glass. Currently, I am not working on any projects, so I decided to create a blog full of the information I have learned about glass over the years. Whether you are an artist, a glass installer, a homeowner thinking about new windows or anyone else with a question or concern about glass, this blog is designed for you.

What to Look for When You Search for a Commercial Glass Repair and Replacement Service

by Catherine Smythe

As a commercial business owner or office manager one of the things you have to consider are repairs. These repairs can range from computers to printers. One of the commercial repairs you may not consider is an emergency glass replacement or repair. If a window breaks in your business, it could put off production or even an entire set of workers until it is repaired. If it happens at night you could be in even bigger trouble. Before you settle on any glass repair service to keep on file, consider what you should be looking for in the ideal service.

Priority Response Options

Most glass repair service companies will offer an emergency after hours response team. This is usually something available to any customer, new or old. As an established customer, and not someone merely calling in for a one time service call, you want to know that you well receive priority response over a new customer. This ensures that you're not waiting all hours of the night or weekend waiting on a response team that is dealing with a new customer across town.

Look for priority options and other benefits for being an established customer or a retainer option that reserves the service in case of an emergency glass replacement. Keep in mind that you can become an established customer on the first day of service usually by agreeing to a contract rather than going on a service by service call basis.

Discounted Options

Something you may not think to ask about are discounted services. Ideally you are looking for discounts on services that will matter when you need them, especially during emergency glass repair. For example, if your business is broken into and the glass needs replacement then you may want a discount on the parts or labour. If they can't handle the repair, due to needing to order replacement glass, you may want a discount on boarding services. Boarding services include boarding up the window, removing the glass, and keeping the area safe from water damage or debris until the replacement glass can get there.

Specialty Repairs

When you have an emergency glass repair, you want to know that the technician is skilled in your specific needs. Though this is true for any business, it is especially true if the glass you are dealing with is a unique design, vintage, or specialty for a particular type of business. For example, you may have a tempered glass in a business lab or construction area that needs emergency repair. You want a repair technician that offers a background in dealing with tempered glass to ensure your issue is repaired properly.

These are only three of the things you should look for when you choose a glass repair service. Make sure to consider all your needs and let the glass service know what type of glass they will be dealing with to determine if they are the right service for you.
